Divas of Dish: Recipes and ideas for cooking and eating
Divas of Dish: Go Fish! Sticks
Summertime and the livin' is easy with this grown-up version of fish sticks that makes everyone feel like a kid again.
Divas of Dish: Heirloom 'mater salad with green goddess dressing
You can eat them like an apple, with perhaps a pinch of salt, the juice dripping down your chin. Heirloom tomatoes, grown from "antique" seeds passed down through generations, are nothing like the artificially ripened hybrid tomatoes grown for mass distribution. They grace our plate in tasty shades of yellow, green, pink and purple, with names like Brandywine, Green Zebra, Hillbilly and Big Rainbow.
Divas of Dish: Crispy prosciutto and asparagus
This Father's Day, don't relegate the grill work play with fire and wow the men in your life. Your guy may reluctantly hand over the tongs, but grillfriends, take over and rediscover the fun of the flames.
Divas of Dish: Grilled Tandoori Chicken Thighs
We can't get enough of these gorgeous, juicy chicken thighs. Marinated overnight in a savory yogurt brew, these achingly tender morsels positively burst with flavor--and queen-of-the-backyard barbecue style.
Divas of Dish: Wok On Spicy Ginger Broccoli
The skinniest way to love your favorite Chinese takeout? Make it yourself. Even the seemingly healthier veggie stir-fries--like ginger broccoli and spicy Szechwan green beans can be loaded with fat, sugar and sodium.
Divas of Dish: Spice-and-Easy Chicken
What could be easier than mixing a bunch of dried spices, rubbing it on some chicken, and grilling it to perfection? It's the perfect springtime supper. Spice rub mixtures are about as varied and different as the number of spices that exist, but when you find just the right one, you know it. Just pick spices that go together, adjust the amounts depending on your preference, and you've got your own blend.
Divas of Dish: Feisty Steamed Clams ' n Fennel
Beachy weather is back, and the divas area ready for languorous afternoons with a juicy novel and a crisp chardonnay, when dinner is a mere afterthought. So we dream up one-pot wonders that quickly will feed a lo-carb crowd.
Divas of Dish: Black-eyed Boom-Boom Salad
A boom-boom booty-licious salad to rock your world--or at least the next back yard barbecue. Tossed in a lemony, ginger vinaigrette featuring the bold, bright flavors of India, black-eyed peas have never sounded so good.
Divas of Dish: Edamame
Healthful Diva 101: always have something delish waiting in the fridge, ready to pounce on after a booty-busting workout or a hard day of shopping. We love crunchy, savory, satisfying tastes, and this simple edamame (soybean) salad keeps us happy.
Divas of Dish: Spaghetti Sauce
Pasta gets a bad rap for empty carbs, but in our kitchen, there's really no more satisfying supper than a bowl of al dente noodles topped with a chunky homemade red sauce, cubes of fresh mozzarella tossed in at the last minute to create a gooey bite here and there.
Divas of Dish: Loves and Fishes Cioppino
Part aromatic stew, part finger food, cioppino (pronounced chuh-PEE-no) is a mouthwatering mélange of fresh seafood that originated on the docks of romantic San Francisco, and is adored 'round the globe as bouillabaisse in France, brodetto in Italy and suquet de peix in coastal Spain.
Divas of Dish: Orzo, Feta and French Bean Salad
Cleaning out the fridge is no picnic. Or is it? We love this easy, do-ahead picnic salad that makes fabulous use of leftover grilled salmon or chicken. Crisp-tender haricots verts (thin French green beans), chunks of pungent feta cheese and buttery orzo pasta are delicious tossed in a simple lemon vinaigrette. Halved grape tomatoes sweeten the bowl and add a gorgeous splash of red.
Divas of Dish: French Onion Soup
The divas crave this classic crock, a rich, beefy, onion-infused broth topped with cuts of toasty baguette and gooey Gruyere. It might have been that first taste of big-girl cuisine with mom and dad, or a first date at the swanky steakhouse reserved for special occasions.
Divas of Dish: Spicy Vietnamese Grilled Chicken Subs
Sub, sammy, panini, po-boy--what we live-to-love betwixt two slices. Clearly, there is no end to what we, the slaves of sammich fashion, can dream up when faced with those first pangs of hunger.
Divas of Dish: Lovely Bones Braised Short Ribs with Honey, Chipotle and Black Beans
Ah, the lovely bones. Rich, meaty, fall-off-the-bone-then-melt-in-your-mouth braised short ribs.
Divas of Dish: Itty Bitty Brownie Bites
Portion size plays a starring role in the drama of losing weight, and since the divas can't live without a surreptitious chocolate fix, these itty bitty treats hit the spot and the crunch of a heart-healthy almond or walnut is the proverbial icing on the cake.
Divas of Dish: Verna's Voluptuous Orange Pepper Salad
Lusty, succulent bell peppers. The divas say to go for buxom and bright--and don't scrimp on color. The more color, the more antioxidants--and the more antioxidants, the less wrinkles you'll get, which means you won't need to have a facelift, which then means you won't be selfishly spending your children's college tuition money. Aging gracefully is in the bowl, babe.
Divas of Dish: Beet and Roasted Red Pepper Salad
Who said that dinner has to be an ordeal? Multiple courses are for teensy people with lots of time and gravy boats. Sometimes it's all about quick and fabulous--a small perfect something that nourishes body, mind and spirited taste buds.
Divas of Dish: Live and Let Liver Pate
Put down your fork and slowly back away from the high-calorie holidays. And while some of us can abandon the butter and never look back, others need a little richness to get through January. This classic pâté has just enough--pumped up with spices and less fat than the classic version.
Divas of Dish: Asian apple slaw
That sound you hear is the crunching of diet-crazed America, at full tilt this month after mindless holiday grazing. We are diving in to fruits and veggies with all the gusto we can muster, amping up flavors with little or no fat.
Divas of Dish: To die-t for Asian soup
The holiday cookie binge is over and you're still too fat for the chimney. Since everyone knows that diets don't work, you'll need a few a mouth-watering, adipose-punishing recipes to find your way back to a more reasonable bathroom scale.
