produce three programs based on the 2008
Metropolitan Cooking & Entertainment Show

Candied Bacon with Brie

1 pound of bacon - individually sprinkle and roll each slice with brown sugar
One Block of Brie – Champaign (tiny) grapes to garnish
Crisp French bread / thinly sliced

Slice each strip of bacon into thirds Spray aluminum foil covered baking pan with Pam Cook bacon pieces in 315 oven for approx 35 minutes until crispy-yummy. Serve candied bacon with brie and bread

WDCW-TV will provide extensive coverage of the Washington, DC’s annual Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show with three locally-produced half-hour specials to be broadcast during the month of November. The specials will be broadcast at 8PM on three consecutive Saturdays - November 15th, 22nd, and 29th. Repeat episodes will be rebroadcast the following day (Sundays) at 2PM. The shows will also be available to screen at any time for eternity on DC50tv.com. Recipes and referral information will also be available at DC50tv.com. The two-day Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show, on November 8th & 9th, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, is designed to inspire creativity and offer hip trends and fresh ideas for cooking and entertaining enthusiasts. The Show will feature three of the Food Network’s top celebrities, Paula Deen, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay. In addition, the show will have food and wine tastings and demonstrations with local and national chefs; product sampling and sales from 200+ exhibitors; tasting and entertaining workshops; a children’s cooking area, and a beer, wine and spirits tasting and workshop area. DC50 will take key elements of the two-day event and build three specials focused on food & recipes; at-home entertaining; and new technology related to cooking and entertaining. All three shows will be hosted by DC50’s “TrenDC” fashion gadfly Paul Wharton and TV personality & actress Lara Hopewell.

“Food, Glorious Food” Saturday, November 15, 8PM (rebroadcast 11/16, 2PM)
This half-hour special is chock full of easy-to-prepare recipes from the DC area’s hottest chefs. This show includes visits to two of Washington’s most coveted restaurants. Chef RJ Cooper takes a group of local homemakers to the Dupont Circle Freshfarm market then follows-up with his lessons on creating everything from a salad dressing to duck confit. Chef Cathal Armstrong, of Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, shares his recipe for bouillabaisse.

“You’re Cordially Invited” Saturday, November 22, 8PM (rebroadcast 11/23, 2PM).
Paul Wharton and Lara Hopewell take an extensive look at what it takes to throw a great party or get-together, whether big or small. Hopewell visits Denise Medved at her Virginia home. Medved is the Founder and Producer of the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining show, and is the President of The Tiny Kitchen, Inc. Medved shares not only great / easy party recipes (like the one featured above), she also shares her proven tips on how to make a gathering a fun & festive event for all concerned, including the host.

“Gizmos, Gadgets and Other Goodies” Saturday, Nov. 29, 8PM (rebroadcast 11/30, 2PM).
This fun-filled half hour completes the series with a look at some of the newest gizmos and gadgets that make cooking and food preparation a bit easier and a lot more efficient. In terms, of “goodies,” this show will also include everything else from kids cooking demonstrations to learning more about the latest in wines & spirits.

Famed chef, cookbook author, restaurateur and Emmy-winning TV host Paula Deen will be interviewed by Paul Wharton. Segments of the interviews will be featured in each of the three specials.

Paul Wharton is a local and nationally-known expert on fashion, modeling and lifestyle. His well-known fashion and lifestyle blog, “TrenDC” is featured on DC50tv.com. He also serves as DC50’s on-air lifestyle correspondent – interviewing such notables as Judge Mathis, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Omarosa, Tamia, Jay Manuel, Steve Wilcos, Dakota Fanning, among many others. He hosted the DC50 half hour special “America’s Polo Cup: Where the Elite Meet” this past May. He has also been featured on FOX, MTV, TV1. His recent “Top Model” search in metro DC recently attracted thousands of applicants vying to appear on the top-rated network series.

Lara Hopewell, who will be co-hosting the three specials, with Paul Wharton was a reporter and anchor at the NBC affiliate in Charlottesville, VA. She has also hosted specials for The Travel Channel, HSN, and the 52 episodes of “Standard Devients” on PBS. She also acts in commercials and corporate videos for such clients as Toyota, The Virginia Lottery and Marriott. She is also a a model – having graced the cover of Washingtonian Magazine for the past two November issues.
