SATURDAYS at 6:00PM and
SUNDAYS at 9:30AM

Veteran Washington, DC broadcaster Chris Core headlines DC50’s new weekly news program “Weekend News with Chris Core.” The weekly news show broadcasts each Saturday at 6PM, with a re-broadcast Sunday mornings at 9:30AM. The 30-minute program will provide news and analysis of both local and national events.

Each week, “Weekend News with Chris Core” gives viewers information and intelligent nonpartisan discussion about both local and national issues. Core is joined on the set by political leaders, government / policy experts, and other newsmakers to discuss recent stories impacting the Greater Washington, DC community.

The program is taped at the Tribune Broadcasting Company national news bureau in downtown Washington, DC. Tribune is the parent company of WDCW-TV, DC50. The Bureau houses reporters from the majority of Tribune’s many newspaper properties across the country, including The Baltimore Sun, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The South Florida Sun Sentinel and The Hartford Courant. Tribune columnists and reporters contribute to “Weekend News with Chris Core.” Each concludes with his “Core Values” editorials which are featured on WTOP-FM.

"Having Chris Core on our weekend news program brings not only instant credibility but also a built-in and very loyal audience - all of which is a terrific for this show," said Eric Meyrowitz, WDCW-TV Vice President & General Manager. “Chris brings more than 30-years of local experience to 'Weekend News'. "We are tremendously pleased and fortunate to have him headlining this new enterprise. The national resources of the Tribune News operation are invaluable."

"This, I promise, is not be another Sunday morning talking heads show," said Core. "It’s compelling television that at times may get controversial as well. I have been covering and talking about the Washington area on the radio for more than 30 years, and we will now bring that kind of stimulating conversation on local and national issues to television."

Viewers wishing to provide feedback to Core on subject matter covered on the show can go to DC50’s website, DC50tv.com, where "Weekend News with Chris Core" will be archived in addition to its regular broadcast.

Chris Core has been a mainstay in the Washington, DC radio and media community since the early 1970’s. He joined WMAL -AM in 1974, after working three years as a Foreign Service officer assigned to the Voice of America. From 1976-1996, he co-hosted the top-rated WMAL afternoon drive program "Trumbull & Core” with Bill Trumbull. Upon Trumbull’s retirement, Core hosted his own program in various time periods on WMAL until earlier this year. In early 2008, Core joined XM Radio’s POTUS (President of the United States) ’08 channel as a host. He also began as a commentator for WTOP (103.5 FM). His “Core Values" commentary on WTOP runs three times daily. During his tenure with WMAL Core received numerous prestigious industry awards and nominations. Over the years Core has raised millions of dollars for local community service organizations including the Fisher House Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs, So Others May Eat, and Catholic Charities. Chris Core
Great Show, Adding Chris Core to your channel is a big plus. I enjoyed his show so much on wmal- his thoughts and comments stimulated my mind and gave me the opportunity to see both sides of controversial current subjects.

Good for you!
You got the Metro guys and it was really good to see you nailing the spokesperson. I wish you had more time with them because it was really getting interesting by the time it had to be cut. This program should be an hour long to be able to really discuss important issues in a worthwhile fashion. You do your best with what you have, but you deserve better from DC50. I hope they listen to their public.

Go Chris - tell those bikers
You are right on when it comes to bikers. I always make a point on my way to work to do five kind acts; I find being nice in the morning helps me be in a good mood. However, just the other morning, at 7:30 am a biker pulled up to the head of traffic; we were stopped for a signal light in Falls Church at Rts 7 and 29. The biker pulled next to a paneled van, the van decided to make a turn and was unable to see the biker. The biker was angry. Now the biker was right in front of me, going 10 mph in a 35 mph zone. Myself and those behind me were stuck. . .watching the traffic in the lane next to us fly by. When I was finally able to get around the biker, I laid on the horn. He created "rage" in me that I didn't have that morning. These types of bikers cause accidents.

DC Bicyclists: where is your tolerance?
Core's opinion on bicyclists on DC road is shocking. His admittance of how he is an "angry person behind the wheels' should be taken seriously by all drivers/pedestrians and bicyclists because it is not an attitude one should be advertising/propagating/supporting!!

Atheist bus ad
How dare you compare an ad telling people to be good to an ad for Jihad or Gay bashing. Atheism is not equivalent to extremism.. why should it be considered "controversial"?

Auto bailout
When are you going to discuss this stupid bailout of the companies that couldn't read the writing on the wall and make smaller cars?

poll
the questions are slightly skewed. Will we see change?, yes. the better question would be Will the changes be for the better?, no

Post political activism
The Washington Post editorial board obviously told opponents of Question B on Friday or earlier that the Post was writing a Sunday editorial against B because the opponents dumped an anti-B piece in the mail on Friday which arrived at homes Saturday which said the Post editorialized against B, which the Post did not do until Sunday. Who can we call at the Post editorial board on Friday to get their Sunday editorial positions?

Chris Core Show
It is great to be able to have a TV show with Chris Core, but it should be an hour long. He always has very good and important issues than deserve more than few seconds of discussion. Congratulations for getting Mr. Core for your team.

Yes to Question B
In an election in which local issues can get lost, and at at a time of tough economic hardship, this is an excellent opportunity to speak loudly to county officials. I'm voting "Yes" on Question B to moderate the county"s extreme spending habits.

Where has this guy Ficker been? I've never heard anybody talk about controlling spending like that. He is great!

Chris Core
I enjoyed listening to Chris Core for many, many years here in Washington. I listen to him now on WTOP and have thoroughly enjoyed his new weekend news program.

Good to see Chris Core back on the air waves or TV waves
I was in high school and remember how much Chris Core understood the local DC area. I don't always agree with Chris, but he seemed to reflect the DC areas attitudes and knew the areas "energy" pretty well. Good to see he's back!
